BEE - KEY FEATURES

Bees are truly extraordinary creatures, living within hives that form one of the most perfectly organized societies in the animal kingdom. Each member of the hive has a distinct role and set of characteristics, contributing to the smooth functioning and survival of the colony. The three main castes in the hive are:

  • Worker Bees
  • Drones
  • The Queen

What makes bees especially fascinating is the specialized role of worker bees within the hive’s daily life. Beyond producing honey, worker bees take on many vital tasks: feeding the eggs, caring for the queen, cleaning, regulating the hive’s temperature, defending the colony and expertly building the honeycombs.

The Queen, fed exclusively on royal jelly, lives for 3 to 4 years and is the hive’s sole egg-layer

Worker bees have varying lifespans depending on the season: around 15–40 days in summer, 30–60 days in spring and autumn, and up to 140 days during winter. Throughout their lives, they tirelessly protect the Queen, produce honey and keep the hive running smoothly.

Drones, on the other hand, do not collect food and live only about 20–30 days. Their sole purpose is to fertilize the Queen.
