SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS GREEK PRODUCERS

Since 2002, our Company has adopted an integrated program for supporting regulated beekeeping activity and has incorporated in its organization chart an independent department Greek Interprofessional Organization for Honey and Other Beehive Products, staffed with highly qualified and experienced agriculturists.

The below measures aim at improving and further developing the beekeeping sector:

  • Informing beekeepers on current legislation, available subsidies and possibilities for having their activities financed.
  • Preparing and distributing a manual of practical lessons and advice on beekeeping, how to organize work during different times of the year and training in beekeeping practices.
  • Holding of training seminars and courses with in-house trainers and university professors of apiculture, with the perspective to turn beekeeping from an amateur to a professional activity, structuring the stages of production more efficiently and better managing the potential risks that may arise during the year.
  • Holding information meetings with groups of beekeepers in order to exchange experiences and solve production-related problems at collective level.
  • Multifractional and immediate cooperation with the Apiculture Departments of the Agricultural University of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for joint activities, research and direct information.
  • Cooperation with the Beekeeping Department of Syngrou Estate.
  • Participation in all the collective bodies of Greek and European beekeeping for direct flow of insight on issues concerning beekeeping or new research.
  • Investment in the installation and operation of a Meteorological Station in the area of Thassos, in 2016, for the continuous recording and uninterrupted availability of meteorological data. Beekeepers are then informed via text messages on weather forecast.
  • After Thassos, it is Kryoneri’s turn to have a Weather Station! Continuous recording of meteorological data is essential to keep our community updated!

Greek beekeepers are our people. Many of them are second and third generation partners. We are by their side every single day, ensuring their continuous education and training.

Through these measures, beekeepers acquire deeper knowledge and insight, something that consequently leads to quality and quantity improvement of the products they harvest.

Our Company is a member of the Greek Interprofessional Organization For Honey And Other Beehive Products, the Greek Federation Of Honey Packers, Distributors And Exporters (SETSEM) and the European Federation of Honey Packers and Distributors (FEEDM).

Since the 1990s, we have participated and conducted dozens of university studies and research projects on the greek honey. Our long-standing goal is to play a catalytic role in the development of greek beekeeping, contributing in every way to knowledge enhancement and amelioration of the quality of greek honey, justly considered as the best honey in the world.

ATTIKI-PITTAS and Attiki Honey, in close cooperation with the Institute of Agronomic Sciences, support the educational program of primary and secondary school children, keeping them informed about the great importance of bees; at the same time, we have assisted the Institute in the establishment of a new, contemporary venue that houses the Beekeeping Museum, where the history of greek beekeeping is vividly narrated through a collection of hives, bee smokers and various objects of remarkable historical value from all over the country.

We actively support the worldwide original research in the field of hymenoptera allergy, run by the Allergy Unit of the 2nd Pediatric Clinic of “P. & A. Kyriakou” University Children’s Hospital of Athens, which is significantly superior in terms of ease and cost-effectiveness compared to other existing treatments. Since bee sting allergy broadly affects the beekeepers’ children, since they become more exposed to stings, we truly want to contribute to this program to rapidly desensitize these children so that they can become our future beekeepers and follow their parents’ footsteps.

Since 2015 ATTIKI-PITTAS has been supporting the Sports Association of Karditsa in Thessaly.. It is our way to highlight the ideals of sports, team effort, ethics and competitiveness and also to promote healthy lifestyle and nutrition, encouraging people to use the power wellness generously offered by nature, such as the greek honey.
