TYPES OF HONEY AND BEES’ JOURNEY TO COLLECT NECTAR

Bees fly from flower to flower and collect their nectar. Using their suckers, they pick a tiny drop of nectar and bring it back to the hive. There, they exchange it many, many times with other bees and, after adding some substances for its proper preservation, store it in their honeycomb. After filling each cell of the honeycomb, they put wax to preserve the honey as much as possible for the cold winter-days to come.
GREEK HONEY AND VARIETIES
Greek honey is superior in terms of organoleptic components (aroma, flavor, density) comparing to honeys from other countries due to our high level of sunshine, soil and, above all, our rich flora, with a great variety of flowers, herbs and trees. The greek nature “hosts” 1,300 plants, which are unique in the world.
The plant origin of greek honeys makes them special in color, taste, density and scents.
Eight pure varieties of greek honey have been identified in Greece: thyme, pine, fir, cotton, sunflower, heather, chestnut and orange.
Also, in our country the largest quantities of honey come from pine, around 60-65%, whilst the production of fir honey is around 5-10% and thyme honey 10%. The rest of the production is divided into flower honeys of various origins.
Our Company, being well aware of the quality and uniqueness of the greek honey, packages and markets exclusively greek honey, pure as in the hive and makes ATTIKI brand internationally synonymous with top quality.
