HONEY VS SUGAR

For centuries, sugar has been the main sweetener used by people. Recently, however, more and more scientists have been imputing a multitude of side effects on the human body. A comparison between honey and sugar in terms of sweetening value, nutritional value and side effects is clearly in favor of honey, which should replace it.

First of all, a comparison between the chemical composition of honey, mainly consisting of simple sugars and numerous trace minerals, and sugar on the other hand which is 99.5 % sucrose with no trace minerals other than some magnesium, manifestly reflects the essential difference between the two sweeteners.

The ultimate advantage of honey is that it is a natural foodstuff, unprocessed, whereas sugar undergoes a considerable amount of industrialization processes, which deprive the original natural raw material of a significant quantity of natural substances.

More importantly, honey is easier to digest than sugar.

In terms of calories, 100g of honey give 315 calories, whereas 100g of sugar give 400 calories. Honey contains a significant amount of fructose, which is about twice as sweet as the sucrose in table sugar. So, for the same sweetening effect we use less honey than sugar, saving ourselves several calories.
